What changes locally

How do foundation problems differ between cities?

The ground and the housing change from city to city, so the engineer focuses on what's most likely to matter. The method, the report and our independence stay the same.

Cooling-off periods are general rules for residential sales: exceptions such as auctions apply, so check your contract. Ground varies within every city, and a site's class under AS 2870 comes from a soil investigation of that site.

Reports in Queensland

In Queensland, professional engineering services must be carried out or supervised by a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) under the Professional Engineers Act 2002 (Qld), so our reports for Brisbane and the Gold Coast are signed by RPEQ-registered engineers.

Same standard everywhere

What's the same in every city?

Wherever the house is, you get the same independent process and the same kind of engineer's report.

Cause first

Every inspection starts with why the house is moving, not with a repair method.

Measured, not guessed

Cracks located and measured, doors, windows and floors checked, and the site looked at outside.

AS 2870 crack ratings

Significant cracks rated from Category 0 to Category 5, with width treated as a guide only.

Engineer-signed report

Prepared and signed by a structural engineer, with photos and the limits of the inspection.

Independent

We never sell, recommend a contractor for or carry out repairs, so the advice stays on your side.

Design and certification

If a repair is needed, we design it, document it for approval, inspect the critical stages and certify it.

New to this? Start with cracks in walls: when to worry, house subsidence and movement or reactive clay and slab heave. Been quoted for underpinning? Read what underpinning is and what underpinning costs.

Tell us where the house is and what you're seeing. We'll confirm whether an engineer can inspect, with a fixed quote within 1–2 business hours.

Questions

Service area questions

Still unsure? Call 07 2150 0579 and an engineer will talk it through.

Which areas do your structural engineers cover?
Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Geelong, plus the Gold Coast, Newcastle, Perth and the Central Coast. Send the address with your quote request and we'll confirm coverage in your fixed quote.
My area doesn't have its own page. Can you still inspect?
Often, yes. The Gold Coast, Newcastle, Perth and the Central Coast are covered without a city page, so send the address and we'll confirm whether an engineer can inspect, and when.
Is a structural inspection the same in every city?
The method is the same everywhere: measure, find the likely cause, rate the damage against AS 2870 and recommend what to do. What changes is the ground and the housing, so the engineer focuses on what's most likely to matter where you are.
How much does a structural engineer cost?
Our on-site inspections with a written engineer's report start from $450 + GST for a typical house, and underpinning quote reviews from documents and photos start from $390 + GST. See pricing.
Who signs the reports?
Structural engineers prepare and sign every report. In Queensland, including Brisbane and the Gold Coast, reports are signed by RPEQ-registered engineers, because professional engineering services there must be carried out or supervised by an RPEQ.
